What is Geriatric Medicine ?
It is the part of medicine deals with Physical, Mental, Psychological, and Social problems of the old age.
The aim of the Geriatric department :
To provide a qualified integrated service dealing with senior adults illness aiming to improve quality of life and keeping them engaged in social life among their family and community.
Role of Geriatrician :
Comprehensive assessment to the senior adults incorporation with the geriatric team, including: Nursing stuff, Physical medicine and rehabilitation stuff, physiotherapists, Nutrition and dieticians, Care-givers.
Services provided by IMC-geriatric medicine and rehabilitation department :
- - Outpatient clinics by consultation of Ain-shams University, geriatric department .
- - Comprehensive assessment and screening test for early detection of diseases common in this age group.
- - Specialized memory clinic.
- - Inpatient ward for admission of acute and critical cases.
- - long-term care (for examples: Alzheimer cases ) which require prolonged and continuous medical and nursing care.
