We provide new Chinese word for Dementia[1]
من نص المقالة
A London-based community project supported by CNWL has devised a new name for Dementia to help diminish stigma around the disease and encourage early diagnosis.
‘Tui-zhi-zheng’ means decreasing or decline, the ability to think or remember things and disease or syndrome. The traditional Chinese word for the condition, ‘Chīdāi’, means crazy and chaotic.
The Chinese National Healthy Living Centre Dementia Peer Support and Information Project helped by CNWL services concentrates on Chinese communities as the disease is stigmatized in the community, hindering people from seeking help and advice. Members of the community are also suspicious of mainstream health services and there may be a language barrier.
