Abstract[عدل]
Management of behavioral symptoms in persons with dementia is as important as management of pain in cancer patients. Behavioral symptoms decrease quality of life of the person with dementia, and increase caregiver hours and the total cost of care more than the degree of cognitive impairment.1 Development of effective strategies for prevention and treatment of behavioral symptoms of dementia is complicated by confusing terminology used to describe these symptoms. Unfortunately, a person with dementia who exhibits any of the symptoms is often called “agitated”2 without defining the behavior more closely and analyzing its causes.
