*  1971: MD degree in Psychiatry Faculty of Medicine Ain Shams University.
*  1973: Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
*  1976: Lecturer of Neurology and Psychiatry Faculty of Medicine Ain Shams University.
*  1977: Postdoctoral Scholarship in Geriatrics in Bermingham University UK for one year.
*  1981: Assistant Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry, Ain Shams University.
*  1982: Founder of the International Psychogeriatric Association (IPA).
*  1985: Recognized as one of the World Five Fathers of Geriatric Psychiatry, Sidney 1985
*  1986: Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry, Ain Shams University.
*  1991: Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK.
*  1992: Fellow of the Fulbright Foundation, and visiting professor in Minnesota University.
*  1994: He founded the Geriatric Medicine and Health department and the MSc and MD degrees in Geriatrics in Ain Shams University.
*  1995: Nominated for the State Excellence Prize by the Neuropsychiatry department, ASU.
*  1997: Founder and director of the Social and Health Care Centre, Helwan University.
*  1998: Founder and director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Research Unit, Institute of Psychiatry Ain Shams University.
*  2000: He founded Alzheimer Egypt Society and several NGOs as well.

تأسيس وحدة طب مسنين عين شمس

This clinical service started as the geriatric unit in Ain Shams University in 1990. This academic department is the only academic department in the Egyptian universities. This department is involved in the M.Sc training in geriatric medicine as well as the MD degree in the specialty. The geriatric unit has change to be academic unit in the 1996. [6]

تأسيس دراسات عليا في طب المسنين

Till 1988 there was no specialized study in Geriatric medicine. It started at the post graduate level as Master degree in Geriatric Medicine which is a taught course in geriatric medicine and a research topic. It is obtained through a written examination, a clinical examination in geriatric medicine. Also there is a doctorate degree in geriatric medicine, in which it has clinical and written examinations and the student also has to choose a research topic as a partial fulfillment to obtain the degree. The center of elderly care has been established in 1996. This center is a self-financed unit under the umbrella of the center for community development in Helwan University. The main objective of the center is to provide both the clinical service for older Egyptians as well as trying to develop a geriatric care model which could be transferred to other institutions and organizations involved in older people care in Egypt. With great sadness i carry to you the news of death of Prof Abdel Moniem Ashour, Prof of Psychiatry, Ain Shams University last Monday the 6th of April 2015. He was an honorable gentleman. He has introduced both geriatric medicine & psychogeriatrics to Egypt. He has established the units of Geriatric medicine & Psycho-geriatrics in Ain Shams University hospitals. He has also established the old age psychiatry ward at Abbasyia Hospital. He was a very open and creative person. He was trying to introduce & integrate OT in elderly care in Egypt. God bless his soul. He has dedicated his life to elderly care in Egypt and specifically to the underprivileged.
