The Knowledge Translation (KT) Program at SickKids supports the knowledge transfer and dissemination activities at SickKids and the surrounding knowledge communities through program offerings including KT training and consultation services.

In 2013 the Knowledge Translation Professional Certificate was recognized as a Leading Practice by Accreditation Canada. The certificate training course is the only course in North America dedicated to building competencies among Knowledge Translation practitioners through a practical and applied approach.

Our Role in Learning The Knowledge Translation Program partners with other Learning Institute programs, the Research Institute, Communications & Public Affairs, health care providers, SickKids International, external collaborators and many others to improve child health based on research and experiential evidence.

Formal KT training and other educational opportunities help staff share research findings, learn from one another, foster communication and improve collaboration skills. The program hosts two training workshops for internal and external participants, the Scientist Knowledge Translation Training (SKTT) and the Knowledge Translation Professional Certificate (KTPC™). The Program also provides KT tools and resources for staff including a Knowledge Translation Planning Template and training manuals.

A KT consulting service was launched in 2013 to assist staff with the use and implementation of best available evidence in patient care, health policy and decision making.

+140 Knowledge Translation practitioners & specialists have graduated from the Knowledge Translation Professional Certificate to date.
