Abu Dhabi Rehabilitation Centre is the only centre that provides specialised care for the elderly in Abu Dhabi City.
Now part of Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs (ZHO), Abu Dhabi Rehabilitation Centre was founded in 1993 pursuant to the directives of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and under the auspices of his wife HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. The centre was known as Abu Dhabi Elderly Care Centre until 2006 when HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, issued Law No. (15) of 2006 to change its name to Abu Dhabi Rehabilitation Centre.
The Centre is equipped with the latest technology and equipments and admits elderly people who need comprehensive and continuous medical care for long periods, which cannot be made available at homes.
In addition to older persons, the Centre also receives disabled children with severe disabilities who need nursing care.
Conditions for Admission
Elderly patients are admitted to the Centre under specific conditions, such as being UAE nationals at the age of 60 years or above with nobody to take care of them. The patient should be in need of specialised medical care that cannot be provided at home and free from all types of infectious diseases. In addition, the centre is not an alternative for the family care, and it does not receive cases where there is a clear negligence on the part of the family to perform its duty.
