Age care services in Egypt are progressing towards a comprehensive approach to promoting successful aging despite chronic illness. This change is driven by many factors including older persons’ desire to receive health care at home, notorious poor outcomes of hospitalization and institutionalization, availability of large pool of formal caregivers, flourishing home services in all sectors including health care, availability of portable imaging equipment, and rapidly expanding use of mHealth.
A patient-centered comprehensive model for age care services is emerging in Egypt. It encompasses medically-supervised and managed community-based palliative care and offers integrated Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment, home consultations and mHealth, in-home caregiving and assistance, rehabilitation, and motivation. The prevalent models of care in Egypt are discussed with emphasis on the emerging comprehensive model, their benefits, and major related issues including utilization and transitions of care
