Abstract
Objectives:
This research is aimed to study the Islamic verdicts related to psychiatric disorders, e.g. responsibility on their acts, Islamic Ebada.
Method:
This study followed the analytic comparative method.
Results:
• The most important results can be summarized in the following points:
• The Islamic verdicts applied to the insanity can be given to schizophrenic patients according to the classification of insanity made by the religious lawyer of Islam (al foqahaa) as follows:
A schizophrenic patient presented with the typical picture of schizophrenia may be classified as "Mutbiq" insanity; continuous and inseparable, and he takes its verdicts.
A schizophrenic patient who received treatment and showed some improvement and patients with mild psychotic features may be classified as partial insanity.
A schizophrenic patient who recover and relapse for any reason may be classified as intermittent insanity and He takes its verdicts.
• Verdicts applied to insanity can not be applied to depressed patients unless their depression became severe and associated with psychotic features as has been detailed within the research.
• Severe cases of Mania can be regarded as insanity and its verdicts can be applied on it. When this disorder occurs episodically it takes the verdicts of intermittent insanity.
• In late stages of dementia, and when it is associated with psychotic features, patient will not be responsible of his
acts. In other cases, when patient's state is fluctuating, Takleef; responsibility, will vary accordingly. • Islamic verdicts given to comatose patients can be applied to those in delirious state and some cases of epilepsy.
